Anaheim Regionals

This weekend we traveled to
Anaheim for Hannah's
Regional Gymnastics
competition. A few weeks
ago she had her State
Competition and got an
All-Around score that took
her to Regionals.
Hannah did really well
at State. Hannah took
First Place on Beam,
Second on Floor,
Third on Vault, and
Fourth on Bars.
All-Around she took
3rd Place with a 36.55.
Hannah also took 5th
Place out of all the
age groups for Level 9
that day.
Pretty darn good for her
first year at Level 9.
So that is why we went to
Anaheim for the weekend.
It was soooo nice there.
Saturday it was 91 degrees.
It was almost HOT.

Kevin had quite the week.
He flew from SLC to JFK on
Wednesday and then on Friday
went from LaGuardia to
Indianapolis to LAX and the
he flew out of Orange County to
SLC on Sunday.  He was
the State traveler this week.
It was so nice we decided
to eat breakfast outside
in our shorts and flip-flops!

When we were packing I told
Hannah to throw in some shorts
because it might be hot.
When she put them on in the
Hotel they were wayyy to tight.
Everytime she bent over
the snap popped open!
So our first stop was to
get Hannah some new shorts!
We went to The Grove.
It's a great mall that is outside
and where most of the celebrities
shop.  I told her we might
see some when we were there.
And sure enough when we
got there Mario Lopez
was interviewing the cast
of NCIS (never watch it)
but they were in the center
court doing an interview
for Extra!

Here's a better picture
of them.  Hannah was
hoping for Khloe or Kim
Kardashian, so she was
a little unimpressed
with the NCIS group.

This is the cute little
Farmers Market clock on
one end of the Mall.

This is looking down the
street of The Grove.

Here is the cute American Girl
store.  I was a little sad because
this didn't get the excitement
it would have gotten 4 years ago.
So I walked sadly through the
store with Hannah knowing
this would probably be the
last time we would walk
through this store.
Purple has almost been
retired (sniff sniff).

And this is where the day
turned "Educational".
Kevin took us to the LaBrea
Tar Pits???
The weirdest thing ever.
In the middle of LA there
is the LaBrea Tar Pits where
tar just bubbles out of
the ground.  And millions
of years ago Ice Age
animals were just preserved
in the hot tar when they
fell in thinking it was
a little lake.
It's smells just like
hot tar there.

Here is a little re-enactment
of a not so smart elephant
that fell in and his (Hannah and I
were pretty sure it was a he elephant
because no she elephant would get
their feet dirty in the hot
smelly tar water)  family that
was sorry he was sinking,
but he should have known
better than to go in the
smelly water!!

After Hannah competed at
Regionals we went to Downtown
Disney and ate at this really
good Mexican place called
Tortilla Joe's.
Hannah did so awesome
at her Regional Meet.
She was so nervous at the
beginning because three
of the six girls had already
competed in different age
groups and had all made
Westerns.  The pressure
was on!! Hannah was on
bars first and scored 9.075.
Next was beam and she
scored 9.425 and placed
2nd. Third was floor and
she scored 9.425 and placed
8th.  Last was vault and she
scored 9.15 and placed
8th.  Her All-Around score
was 37.075 - her second
highest All-Around score
of the year and she took 5th!!!
They take the top 12 to go
to Westerns.  The other two
girls in her group were 3rd
and 7th and so all 6
girls made it to
Westerns.  Pretty impressive!
Three of the girls were 1st
year Level 9's and were
told you usually don't
make it to Westerns until
your second or third year.
Nice Job Hannah!!

This was a cute store that is
like Build-A-Bear for girls,
but it was called Ridemakerz
that is build a race car for
boys!!

Of course the Candy Store
was Hannah's favorite. They
were making the cutest
carmel apples that you
could watch them through
the window.
Cute Minnie-Mouse
carmel apples.
Marshmellows for ears!

Here are some Mickey and
Minnie carmel apples on top.
Jack from the "Nightmare
Before Christmas", a
Easter Bunny, and
a cinnamon sugar
with graham cracker
bottom.

Cute signs and there were
flowers everywhere
it was so Summer
there!

Before we left Hannah
wanted a picture standing on
the huge Lego at the
Lego store!  Hopefully
we can go back soon and
spend a few days instead
of a few hours before
heading back home.

  1. Way to go Hannah! You so ROCK! I miss gymnastics. When are Westerns? I am jealous that you got to enjoy some warm weather. I would kill to feel some warmth these days!
